Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) and its universities are transforming the existing society through democratic participation of different ethnic and religious groups and progressing towards creating a stateless democracy. They are one of the best examples of the dialectical process of the production of the knowledge of and for a democratic society. This new society emerging in the region is both a pioneer and a carriage of an alternative education and an alternative university model also for any group of academics who defend democratic values and human emancipation.

With the strength it receives from the democratic unity of its people, AANES has the potential and quality to guide critical and creative change, not only for itself, but also for other peoples and societies in the world. The aspiration and the potential of the region for alternative education lies in breaking the culture of silence and prioritizing critical thinking.
